The Internal Revenue Service requires all e-file locations to have an EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) registered to that address. This number allows you to transmit your returns via the internet to the I.R.S. The I.R.S. e-Services website allows you to file your EFIN applications on-line as well as review and apply for Disclosure Authorization (DA), Electronic Account Resolution (EAR), and Transcript Delivery System (TDS).

Since you will have the clients sign the Electronic Filing Declaration (Form 8879) and you will be giving the clients their final printed tax returns and check, you are required by the IRS and most state taxing agencies if applicable to maintain copies in a secured location for at least three years after the date of filing the returns.
